Directions from Avignon TGV to

From the Gare TGV Avignon

1.	Follow "Autres Directions / Avignon Sud" from the TGV Station (Do not go direction Nime).
2.	Follow the road, past two round-abouts –
3.	Continue "Autres Directions, Cavaillon, Aix-en-Provence
4.	Follow Cavaillon – (Right Turn)

Travel Tips

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

For most of you, you'll need to take a plane, a train and an automobile to get there. It sounds more complicated than it is – promise. The basic track from the US is to fly into Paris, take the TCG train (3 hours) to Avignon, and then rent a car for the 40KM drive to Saint-Saturinin-Les-Apt. An alternative would be to fly to Nice (there are some direct flights from the US) and rent a car from there (approximately 4 hours). Below are links to where you can make appropriate reservations.

Travel Agent

If you need a great travel agent to make your plans we recommend Kathryn Neher - Kathryn dot Neher at Altour dot Com. She charges a small fee (generally around $35 to make an flight reservation), but in our experience she has access to fares and flights you can't access on your own. The savings and convenience generally negates the fee. She can also be reached at 1-516-953-5232.

As always, let us know if we can help: dmd at well dot com

Air Travel to France

From the US, the easiest will be to fly to Paris or Nice (there are many more (direct) flights to Paris. The usual suspects fly there -- United, Air France, American, Northwest, Delta, etc. Here are a few sites that can help you book if you choose not to go directly through an airline:

Mobissimo

Travelocity

Orbitz

If you find any particuarly good deals let us know so that we can share with others.

NB: Pease email us at dmd at well dot com if you'd rather go to Nice and need some help with your plans

Train to Avignon

The TCG (French High Speed Train) makes the 400 mile trip to Avignon from Paris in only 3 hours.

Booking is simple at the French National Train Website. Click on the British flag, bottom left, for an english version

Most trains depart out of the Gare de Lyon. From the Paris airport it is probably easiest to just take a taxi, but you can visit the English version of the Paris Public Transportation Site if you'd prefer to go that way.

UPDATE: There are now 4 trains a day leaving directly from CDG to Avignon. We recommend you take one of those. Type "Paris CDG" as the "From" field when making the reservation.

Car Rental from Avignon

There are many car rental outfits (dollar, hertz, etc.) at the Avignon TCG station. The drive will take about 40 minutes. We will have specific directions posted here in August.

We really recommend renting a car if you want to enjoy the region on day trips etc.

The best value we've found with car rental is Easy Car. If you are getting to Avignon by Train, select Avignon TGV as your car rental pick-up spot.

Updated, scouted and fully vetted hotel recommendations:

Hotel des Voyageurs

Saint Saturnin Les Apt - 5 minute drive from wedding
(+33) 4.90.75.42.08 (ask for Nadine)
NO WEBSITE

A nice two star no frills hotel with rooms about 60 Euros a night. There is no AC and it is a little old, but clean, safe, in the middle of the nearest town and a great value. If your looking to save some money on lodging, this is your spot. Tall people beware of smallish beds.

Reserve by June 1 Mention David-Michel and Stella Wedding.

Le Clos de la Glycine

Rousillon - 15 minute drive from wedding
(+33) 4.90.05.60.13 - http://www.luberon-hotel.com

Wonderful mid-range hotel. Rooms are about 150 a night. Stella and I stayed here on our scouting trip and loved it. It is in the beautiful and close by village of Rousillion. There is no pool, but breakfast is served on your porch with a gorgeous view of the Luberon. Very clean, great value. A great choice.

Reserve by June 1 to guarantee space. Mention Davies/Lee wedding.

Le Roy Soleil

Menerbes - 20 minute drive from wedding
(+33) 4.90.72.25.61 - http://www.roy-soleil.com

Decent mid-range. Not as good as Le Clos de la Glicine, but still fine. The grounds are nice and it has a pool, so that's a plus. Around 150 a night.

Reserve by June 1. Mention Davies/Lee wedding.

Le Mas de Garrigon

Nice little Inn just outside of Rousillon. Lots of different rooms, friendly hosts and all and all very Provence. A good selection. Rooms are about 155 for a double.

Reserve by June 1. (no block)

Les Bories

Gordes - 25 minutes from wedding
(+33) 4.90.72.00.51 - http://www.hotelprestige-provence.com

The best luxury hotel in the immediate region. Beautiful grounds, beautiful rooms. If you want to stay somewhere really nice this is the place. Rooms are 350 and up. Located in the picturesque village of Gordes, it is not super close, but definitely a tolerable distance from the wedding.

Reserve by June 15th to be sure to get a room. (no rooms on hold)
